The Levels

There are 5 levels for both English and maths functional skills qualification. The level starts at entry level 1 and then goes entry level 2, entry level 3, level 1 and level 2. The Functional Skills Level 2 is the GCSE equivalent qualification that you need if you want to apply for university courses.

Functional skills qualifications demonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding of the relevant subject The 3 entry grades provide a foundation to take the higher level exams. Exam Boards

There are many different awarding bodies that offer qualifications in English and maths functional skills. City and Guild is one of the largest exam boards that provide functional skills level 2 qualifications. This qualification is popular since there are thousands of people every year that sit this exam. The UK government sets the curriculum for every exam board, so there isn’t any difference between them.
