BIDMAS/BODMAS Revision

This week’s topic of choice to focus on is BIDMAS or BODMAS, which stands for Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction. This acronym is used to help you to determine what order to complete things within a long equation. It is taught at KS3 Maths and often only revisited very briefly at GCSE level yet when students first come to us we often see the failure to implement BIDMAS correctly across all abilities. BIDMAS is so crucial to many algebra topics that failure to apply it effectively can result in the loss of a lot of easy marks.
