GCSE Maths Revision Factorising Quadratics

At York Private Tutors we are running a course of blogs looking at all the areas of the GCSE Maths syllabus. This week we are focusing on factorising quadratic questions as these are a classic topic that always came up in the old GCSE Maths exams and now come up but in many different types of questions in the new GCSE Maths past papers. As well as offering guidance on topics such as factorising quadratics we also have expert GCSE Maths tutors in York who can provide one to one tuition to aid in this area and all areas of the GCSE Maths syllabus.

The straightforward factorising quadratic questions are where you are given the equation in order of power and you simply look for the factors that multiply to get the end number and add to get the middle number, these then go into the bracket. Where mistakes are made is nearly always with the signs. The more challenging questions involve things like inequalities that first need rearranging, then factorising in order to solve them. Also factorising quadratics is also required within the topic of algebraic fractions where students have to factorise one or maybe even two expressions in order to be able to simplify them by cancelling down. At York Private Tutors our GCSE Maths tutors in York are fully aware of all the different question types and contexts that can appear and first look to help our pupils feel really confident with the basics before building on them with the more difficult question types.
